Burandt Resigns as Cleveland State Swimming & Diving Coach

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University head men's and women's swimming & diving coach Hannah Burandt has announced her resignation to pursue other opportunities outside of coaching.

"On behalf of Cleveland State Athletics, I want to thank Coach Burandt for her dedication and service to the swim and dive program," Interim Director of Athletics Kelsie Gory Harkey said. We are proud of the many achievements our student-athletes have accomplished during her time as head coach. I appreciate the energy and effort that she brought to campus, especially in her ability to engage with alumni, staff, and community members. We wish her the best in her future endeavors."

Burandt served as the head coach for five seasons and is coming off a year in which she was named the Horizon League Co-Coach of the Year on the men's side. The men finished top-three every season, including three runner-up performances. The women had one second-place finish, matching the program best.

During Burandt's tenure, the men had 11 individuals, two relays, and one diver claim Horizon League Championships. On the women's side, two swimmers won Horizon League Championships. Burandt also coached one Horizon League Swimmer of the Year and Freshman of the Year on the men's side.

"I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to have served as the head swimming and diving Coach at CSU," said Hannah Burandt. "I am proud of what we have accomplished these past five seasons, and this is the right time for me to make a career change. I am excited to see the program continue to thrive as the future is bright for the Vikings!"

Burandt had a huge impact on the student-athletes in the classroom, as the Vikings had a combined 22 Horizon League All-Academic honorees. On the national level, the team received seven CSCAA Scholar All-America Team recognitions and had 12 individual Scholar Athletes. In 2021-22, both teams were named Horizon League Raise Your Sight Award winners, which is awarded to the top academic male and female team in the Horizon League, based on combined grade point average (GPA) from the current academic year.

Cleveland State will conduct a national search for the next head coach. Assistant coach Trent Richardson will serve as the interim head coach and oversee the day-to-day activities of the program until the new head coach is appointed.
