Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (7-5, 4-2) won its third straight home ASUN game, defeating Queens (2-8, 1-5) 12-7 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Vikings got on the scoreboard first as Wyatt Robertson netted an unassisted goal at the 12:23 mark. Two minutes later, Gavin Held doubled the margin off a pass from Cole Pollard. Amiri Austin made it 3-0 as he found the back of the net off a pass from Held with 2:13 remaining in the quarter.

The defense completed its fifth shutout of a quarter as the game shifted to the second. Queens then broke through just 25 seconds in to trail 3-1. Less than a minute later, Robbie Brazanskas got the goal back with his first of the season off a pass from Mitchell Maibuecher.

The Royals trimmed the deficit to two at the 8:21 mark, but the Green and White answered back on a Jacob Lubrant goal off Pollard's second helper of the game with 6:33 remaining in the half.

The final goal of the half belonged to the visitors, as Cleveland State led 5-3 at halftime.

Cleveland State capitalized on a man-up opportunity less than three minutes into the new half as Pollard scored off a feed from Austin. For the third time in the game, Queens trimmed the margin to two with 9:42 left in the quarter. However, back-to-back goals from Held and Dylan Tomarchio in 29 seconds expanded the advantage to 8-4 with 8:25 to go.

Queens grabbed a late goal to trail 8-5 heading into the fourth quarter of play.

Parker Yearego opened the scoring in the final frame with 8:16 left, but Queens matched it just seven seconds later. Yearego netted his second straight unassisted goal but again the visitors scored quickly, this time a minute later to trail 10-7 with 6:10 to go.

The Green and White then settled down and scored the final two goals behind Robertson and Yearego's third of the quarter, winning the conference game 12-7.

The hat-trick for Yearego was his third of the year, tying him with Robertson for the team lead in goals with 19. Pollard and Maibuecher each finished with two helpers.

The Green and White held a commanding 40-26 advantage in the ground ball category while going 12-of-21 in the faceoff circle.

Zack Tower scooped up a team-best five ground balls, while Griffin Valli and Connor Kernan were close behind with four apiece.

Reigning ASUN Defensive Player of the Week, Kernan remained unbeaten at home after making 19 saves, tying him for the second most in a game.

Cleveland State has a quick turnaround as they travel to Bellarmine on Saturday for a noon contest.
