Cleveland State Lacrosse Defeats St. Bonaventure on Senior Day, 10-8

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (3-3) used a strong second half to come from behind to defeat St. Bonaventure (0-5) 10-8 on Senior Day.

The Vikings honored their 13 seniors before the game: Connor Kernan, Robbie Brazanskas, Carson Croy, Amiri Austin, Grayson Dague, Reggie Regala, Gavin Held, Matt Humphreys, Evan Moskwa, Zack Tower, Alex Van Voorhis, Jon Sokolowski, Shane Tesler.

The Bonnies netted the first three goals of the game to lead 3-0 with 6:30 remaining in the first quarter. Van Voorhis got the Green and White on the board with 1:28 left, but St. Bonaventure answered just as the horn sounded to lead 4-1.

SBU struck just 31 seconds into the second quarter to extend their lead to 5-1. Wyatt Robertson brought the deficit to two off a feed from Dylan Tomarchio with 9:54 remaining in the first half. Following a Bonnies goal, Michael Care found the back of the net as the Vikings trailed 6-3 at halftime.

The only goal of the third quarter came from Robertson with 1:54 showing on the clock as Cleveland State trailed 6-4 with one quarter left in regulation.

Van Voorhis started the scoring with an unassisted tally to climb within one with 10:17 to go in the fourth. A minute later, St. Bonaventure got the goal back to lead 7-5.

An unassisted Care goal, followed by a Robertson tally just 38 seconds later, tied the game with 8:49 remaining in regulation.

The visitors reclaimed the lead with an unassisted goal at the 7:06 mark. Cole Pollard then retied the game off a feed from Robertson with 4:56 showing.

A man-up tally from Care off a feed from Van Voorhis put the Vikings ahead 9-8 with 3:11 showing on the scoreboard. Van Voorhis sealed the senior day victory with 21 ticks left as the Green and White won, 10-8.

The Vikings held a 42-27 edge in ground balls and a 44-22 advantage in shots. Robertson, Care, and Van Voorhis all had hat-tricks in the game.

Moskwa was 12-of-18 in the circle with six ground balls. Griffin Valli and Sokolowski each forced two turnovers.

Kernan moved to 2-0 in goal after making seven saves.

Cleveland State starts ASUN play on Saturday, March 16 at Lindenwood with a 2 p.m. start time.
