Cleveland State started the 2024-25 season with a strong showing at the Bob Del Rosa Open hosted by Case Western on Sunday. The Vikings had 11 placers with four champions in the open division and seven placers with three champions in the freshman/sophomore division.

Ben Aranda claimed the 125-pound title after going 4-0 in the open division and winning his final match against Jordan Rodriguez of Lake Erie, 5-1.
Jake Manley also went 4-0 at 133-pounds to win the championship, defeating Art Martinez of Case Western in the final bout, 9-2.

Tate Geiser won the 165-pound championship after turning in a 4-0 afternoon including a 12-2 major decision over Nate Barrett of Ashland in the finals.
Daniel Bucknavich claimed the 285-pound championship with a 3-0 day highlighted by two falls in his first two matches.
The Vikings had runner-up performances by
Connor Saylor (149 Pounds),
Douglas Terry (157 Pounds), and
Joey Lyons (197 Pounds).
Gavin Ricketts placed third at 174-pounds, while fifth place finishes went to
Nick Molchak (133 Pounds) and
Landen Duncan (141 Pounds).

In the open division, a pair of freshmen brought home championships in their Cleveland State debuts.
Connor Holm (165 Pounds) and
Xander Myers (197 Pounds) each went 4-0 on the day. Sophomore,
Shane Cook won the open division at 285-pounds after defeating teammate
Mekhi Bradley 7-3 in the championship match.

Tyler Deericks placed fifth at 157-pounds and
Parker Pikor placed sixth at 125-pounds to round out the division.

Cleveland State will turn its attention to its first dual match at home on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. against Columbia.
