CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis duo of
Sima Heren and
Oihane Vicario captured the Horizon League Individual Championship Doubles Title Sunday, picking up a 9-7 victory over teammates
Ella Franz and
Tereze Vevere.
Heren and Vicario earned their spot in the doubles final after picking up an 8-5 victory over Youngstown State's Lili Minich and Ghada Dirninger in the semifinals, while Franz and Vevere posted an 8-2 semifinal win over YSU's Lorena Cedeno and Julia Marko to earn their spot in the championship match.
With their win, Vicario and Heren earned the Horizon League's doubles entry into the
ITA Conference Masters Championship hosted November 7-10 in Rome, Georgia. From the 32-team doubles draw at the ITA Conference Masters Championship, three teams will earn an automatic qualifying spot into the NCAA Doubles Championship.
In singles, Vicario also played in Sunday's championship match, dropping a 6-2, 7-5 contest to Youngstown State's Julia Marko. Vicario advanced to the singles final after going 4-0 over the first two days of play.
