CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team had a strong first day of action at the Horizon League Individual Championship Friday, with three singles players advancing to the quarterfinals and three teams earning spots in the doubles quarterfinals.

In singles, Oihane Vicario, Tereze Vevere and Sima Heren all went 2-0 to earn a spot in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Vicario picked up wins against Milwaukee and IU Indy, while Vevere earned wins over Northern Kentucky and Milwaukee, and Heren posted victories against Northern Kentucky and IU Indy.

In addition, Jenna Redmile picked up a win in her opening round match against IU Indy, before falling in the round of 16.

In doubles, the Vikings picked up wins in all three matches, putting a trio of teams into the quarterfinals.

Vicario/Heren and Vevere/Ella Franz picked up matching 8-1 victories, while Frogner/Redmile earned an 8-5 win in their opening round match.

Action at the Horizon League Individual Championship will continue tomorrow, with two rounds of singles and one round of doubles starting at 10:00 a.m.
