Cleveland State Lacrosse Topples St. Bonaventure on the Road, 13-6

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Vikings (2-2) wrapped up non-conference play with a 13-6 road victory at St. Bonaventure (1-5) on Saturday afternoon. The Green and White will shift focus to their ASUN opener at home against conference newcomer, Lindenwood (1-2) on Saturday, March 18 at noon.

Cleveland State scored the first five goals of the game highlighted by a pair from Gavin Held and Ryan Haigh's 57th career goal, tying the program record.

St. Bonaventure got on the board for the first time with 1:49 showing, but Gannon Matthews matched it with 57 seconds to go as the Vikings led 6-1. Held then completed his first quarter hat-trick with just two seconds remaining to make it 7-1.

Ian McKissick bagged the first goal of the second quarter before the Bonnies ran off three straight to get within 8-4 with 9:05 remaining in the half. Less than a minute later, Xander Johnson tallied his second goal of the afternoon, upping the margin to 9-4.

The Bonnies grabbed the final goal of the half with 3:18 showing to trail 9-5 at the halftime break.

The Vikings blanked St. Bonaventure 2-0 in the third quarter with goals by McKissick and Johnson to lead 11-5. The goal by Johnson completed his first collegiate hat-trick.

The Bonnies found the back of the net for the first time in the second half with 9:59 showing in the fourth to trail 11-6. Just 20 seconds later, Johnson tallied his fourth of the game off a pass from Connor Zwagerman to lead 12-6.

Matthews put the finishing touches on the Vikings second straight victory with his second goal of the day as the Green and White won on the road, 13-6.

Johnson, a freshman led all scorers with four goals, while Held finished with three. Matthews was tops on points with five behind two goals and three assists.

Cameron Logan made 15 saves on the afternoon, allowing just one goal in the second half. The senior also led the Vikings in ground balls with four.
