Cleveland State Wrestling Falls at Kent State, 25-9

KENT, Ohio – The Vikings fell to Kent State 25-9 in a Northeast Ohio MAC showdown on Thursday evening. With the loss, Cleveland State drops to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the MAC.

Cleveland State earned the opening three points of the night after Logan Heil took down No. 28/33 Jake Ferri with a 9-4 decision. Kent State tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-1 decision at 133-pounds and claimed their first lead of the evening, 9-3 with a forfeit victory at 141-pounds.

No. 30 Marcus Robinson used a takedown with 20 seconds left in the match to secure a 3-2 decision at 149-pounds as the Green and White got to within 9-6. However, the Golden Flashes got the three points back with a 4-2 overtime victory at 157-pounds, making it 12-6.

Kent State extended their lead to 15-6 with their second straight overtime victory, winning 7-5 at 165-pounds. The home team extended the margin to 22-6 behind a 4-2 decision at 174-pounds and 18-4 major decision at 184-pounds.

Ben Smith recorded a 6-4 victory at 197-pounds as Cleveland State closed the gap to 22-9.

The Golden Flashes tallied the final three points of the night with a narrow 4-3 decision at 285-pounds, winning the match 25-9.

Alumni Day
Cleveland State will be hosting Alumni Day on Saturday, February 5 at 7 p.m. against Ohio University inside Woodling Gymnasium. For $20 alumni can attend a reception at Mather Mansion and then get into the match. Alumni are asked to RSVP by February 1 and can do so by clicking here.

The Vikings will wrestle for the final time at home on Saturday, February 5 against Ohio at 7 p.m. This match will be Senior Day along with Alumni Day.
