Cleveland State Women's Tennis Falls In #HLTennis Semifinals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team concluded its 2021 campaign Saturday, dropping a 4-1 match against top-seeded UIC in the Horizon League Semifinals.

Despite dropping the doubles point, the Vikings were able to pick up a 6-2 win at the top of the lineup from Klara Mrcela and Miruna Vasilescu, as the duo improved to 7-3 this season.

After UIC was able to extend their lead to 2-0 after picking up a win at the No. 2 spot, the Vikings responded with a win at the top of the lineup, as Vasilescu picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory to put the first point on the board for Cleveland State.

With the win, Vasilescu improved to 17-3 overall this season while picking up her 12th win against a league opponent.

The Flames were then able to pick up wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots to clinch the match at 4-1.

Mrcela and Bethany Yauch were the two remaining matches on court when the match was called, Mrcela just starting a third set at No. 3 singles and Yauch just about to force a third set at the No. 4 spot.

Cleveland State was making its 14th appearance in the Horizon League Semifinals and 11th straight trip.
