Fencing Concludes NCAA Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – After a season with much uncertainty, the Cleveland State fencing program has completed the 2020-21 campaign at the NCAA Fencing Championships at the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University.

Three members of the women's fencing team finished up rounds four and five of the women's competition, and with many competitors withdrawing over injuries and contact tracing, all three Cleveland State fencers saw at least one less bout today than normal.

Amanda Provance led the way with a 19th place finish in epee after picking up a win over North Carolina in round four. This marks the best finish at the NCAA Championships for Cleveland State women's fencing since 1997.

Shelbie Seeberg finished 23rd in women's foil, while Dorian Pichola finished 24th in women's saber.

Cleveland State finished 17th overall in the final team standings. This is the best finish at the NCAA Championships since 1995.

This week the Cleveland State fencing program made great results in a season with a lot of uncertainty, as the program record-tying six qualifiers all contributed to helping the program to a top-20 finish, as well as the best individual performance since the 1990's.
