GAME RECAP

The Cleveland State University lacrosse team fell behind early against No. 7 Notre Dame and was unable to recover as the Fighting Irish claimed a 17-7 win Saturday afternoon inside the Loftus Sports Center.

The Vikings had edges in a couple statistical categories and were close to the nationally ranked Irish in a few others, but ND was able to run away on the scoreboard.

CSU won 17 of 28 faceoffs on the day and also had two fewer failed clears. Notre Dame had a slim 32-31 edge in ground balls and had one more extra-man goal that the guests.

Senior captain Danny Tesler won 15 of 23 faceoffs and also produced a game-high eight ground balls.

Sophomore Ryan Haigh had a pair of goals, producing his third straight multi-goal effort. Junior Michael Wilson notched a goal and an assist to notch his eighth straight multi-point game, the 25th of his career.

Senior Noah Gleeson opened the scoring inside of 30 seconds, but Notre Dame scored the final six goals of the opening quarter. The Fighting Irish would extend their lead in the second quarter, and the Vikings proved too far behind to launch a comeback.

Cleveland State refused to quit as the Vikings outscored the Fighting Irish during the second half, 6-5.

Junior Tristan Hanna scored for the seventh straight game, extending his own school record. Wilson had at least one assist for the eighth consecutive contest, tying his school record. Gleeson scored for the fourth straight outing.

Sophomore Gareth Haigh made a career-high 13 saves in the cage while senior Isaac Atencio posted four ground balls.

Seniors Chase Baker and Nick Wendel added goals for CSU while senior Stephen Masi and junior Derek Radke each posted an assist.

Five Viking freshmen made their collegiate debuts Saturday, with Charlie Williams winning two of three faceoffs.

Cleveland State will head to Denver's Face-Off Classic next weekend where it will take on two more nationally ranked squads—Air Force and the host Pioneers.
