Vikings Drop 78-62 Contest At Wright State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team played its first Horizon League road game of the 2019-20 campaign Thursday evening, dropping a 78-62 contest at Wright State. The Vikings now stand at 11-3 overall this season and 1-2 in league play.

Game Stats
· Savanna Crockett led the Viking offense with 18 points, while Mariah Miller added 12 points and JaMiya Braxton chipped in 10.
· Savanna Crockett grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while Mariah Miller added seven boards and Dana DeGraffenreid posted five.
· Mariah White recorded a team-best three steals on the game.
· As a team, Cleveland State had three blocked shots on the night, coming from Nadia Dumas, Aminata Ly and Jade Ely.

Game Notes
· JaMiya Braxton recorded her 10 points on a trio of three-pointers, marking the seventh time this season that she has converted three or more shots from behind-the-arc.
· Aminata Ly returned to the lineup after missing the last seven games due to injury, finishing with a career-high six points and four rebounds.
· Savanna Crockett was just shy of her second straight double-double finishing with a season-high 18 points and nine boards against the Raiders.
· Thursday's game marked the first #HLWBB road game for the Vikings, and their ninth contest away from home out of the first 14 during 2019-20.

After going into the halftime break trailing by six at 43-37, the Viking offense struggled throughout the first part of the third quarter, with Wright State extending its lead to double-digits at the 55-42 mark. Cleveland State worked its way back into the contest over the next few possessions though, as five straight Viking points brought CSU within eight at 55-47 with 3:50 left in the frame. This stretch included three points and a blocked shot from Aminata Ly and a Savanna Crockett layup.

This would be as close as the Vikings would get during the quarter though, as Wright State closed out the frame on an 8-3 run to take a 63-50 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

The Vikings were once again able to chip away at the WSU lead over the opening minutes of the final quarter, as four straight points from Mariah Miller and a steal and layup from Mariah White brought the Vikings back within nine at 65-56 with 5:41 left on the clock.

The Raiders were able to put a stop to the Viking run on their next possession, and then went on to close out the game with a 13-6 run to come away with the 78-62 victory.
