CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team continued its preseason workouts Saturday, hosting its annual Green & White Scrimmage. The Vikings were split into two teams throughout the scrimmage, with some players playing on both the Green and White teams.

The white team came out on top during all four sets, 25-15, 26-24, 28-26, 25-19.

Senior Grace Kauth led the Viking offense throughout the scrimmage, finishing with 15 kills. Also finishing with double-figure kills were senior Sydney Mast (11), sophomore Mariah Carrero-Johnson (11), and freshman Trinniti Hall (11).

Junior Alexis Middlebrooks finished the day with nine kills, while freshmen Sara Skeens and Ambre Pierce both ended the scrimmage with seven kills.

Junior Gina Kilner served as the setter for the white team, recording 46 assists on the team's 58 kills. The setter for the Green team was freshman Christina Hudgens, who finished with 36 assists on the team's 44 kills.

Sophomore Rachael Dohar and junior Shannon Grega split libero duties during the scrimmage, Grega finishing with 26 digs and Dohar recording 18. Skeens also had a good defensive effort on the day, finishing with 17 digs, while classmate Jordan Verbiak finished with 11. Kauth and sophomore Elizabeth Murphy both ended the day with 13 digs, while Kilner added 11 digs for the White team.

Middlebrooks recorded a team-best five total blocks during the scrimmage, while Carrero-Johnson added four and Kilner, Hall, and senior Aaliyah Slappy each posted three blocks.

The Vikings will begin the 2016 season in just under one week, as they will take part in the Golden Dome Invitational on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27. Cleveland State's first match of the weekend will be against Western Michigan at 4:30 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 26).
