FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2014 spring season Sunday afternoon, defeating IPFW, 5-2.

"This team showed a lot of pride and determination today, being able to pick up their first win even after some tough travel conditions," assistant coach Frank Polito said. "I'm so proud of Victoria, she really inspired the team with her energy and her bounce back after injuring herself in yesterday's match. Alex Bush finished off a great weekend for us with a big win today, and Princess was able to pick up her first dual match win after continuing to work hard throughout the first part of the spring season."

The Vikings got out to a quick start, picking up the doubles point for the first time this season. CSU picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, with Princess Gbadamosi and Alex Power posting a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot, and Mathilde Orange and Ellen Folkers earning a 7-5 victory at the No. 3 spot.

After IPFW was able to even the score with a victory at No. 4 singles, CSU picked up wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots, giving the Vikings a 3-1 advantage. At No. 3 singles Gbadamosi picked up her first dual match singles victory, posting a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Orange earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.

The Mastodons were then able to put the score at 3-2 with a win at the top of the lineup, but CSU finished off the final two matches with victories.

At No. 2 singles, Alex Bush notched a 6-3, 6-4 win, marking the 50th singles win of her career. At No. 6 singles, Ellen Folkers recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory, becoming the first Viking to post 10 singles wins this season.

The Vikings will return home next weekend, hosting Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 at Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake, Ohio.
