One Finalist and Three Placers at the Navy Classic

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Cleveland State wrestling traveled to the Navy Classic Saturday morning in Annapolis, Maryland.

Riley Shaw led the way with a second place finish at heavyweight.  He ended the day with four wins, two coming by pin, and one loss.   In the semifinals, he won by major decision against #14 Joe Stolfi of Bucknell.  That is Shaw's second win now against Stolfi who he also beat in the semifinals at the Clarion Open earlier in the season.  Shaw lost in the finals to #6 Connor Medbery of Wisconsin.

Cleveland State had three other placers at the tournament.  Ben Willeford finished fourth at 125.  He made the semifinals before falling to #16 Sean Boyle of Chattanooga.  In the third place bout, he dropped a close match to Zeke Moisey of West Virginia who he beat earlier in the tournament.  After dropping his first match of the day, Dan King at 133 won five matches to finish in fifth place.  In the fifth place bout, he defeated Cory Stainbrook of West Virginia who he lost to in the first round.  At 165, Matt Donohoe finished in sixth place with all of his losses coming to Navy wrestlers.  He lost twice to nationally ranked Peyton Walsh of Navy before falling to Michael Coleman of Navy in the final bout.

The Navy Classic was the premier pre-Thanksgiving tournament this year in Division 1 wrestling.  Next up for the Vikings is the annual match against John Carroll at 7:30 on Tuesday at JCU's gym.
