LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened the Kentucky Invitational with a strong day of play Friday, as the Vikings posted three singles wins and two doubles wins. Action will continue at the UK Invite Saturday, with play set to begin at 9:00 a.m.

"Overall we had an okay day today, we could have done better but we now have some things to work on and improve on for tomorrow," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "This is a very strong tournament and that gives us great competition at this point in the season. It was good to see Alex Bush back on the court after her injury, and her and Alex Power had a great day in doubles play today. They are definitely going to work their way up the lineup. Tomorrow we want to keep improving on our play and take it to the next level."

Alexandra Bush was part of three wins for the Vikings Friday, as she earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kelsey Edens of Evansville in the Singles G Draw along with a pair of doubles victories. Bush paired up with Alex Power and recorded two straight wins to earn a spot in the Doubles C Draw championship match.

Power and Bush recorded an 8-5 victory over a duo from Purdue in the first round, before topping a team from Kansas, 8-4 to earn a spot in the championship match.

Kara Sherwood and Mengdi Liu posted CSU's two other singles victories on the day, as Sherwood earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gaby Fifer of Evansville in the Singles D Draw, while Liu posted a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory over Emily Richardson also of Evansville in the Singles F Draw.

Play at the Kentucky Invitational will continue Saturday morning, with action beginning at 9:00 a.m.
