Fairborn, Ohio - Although four Vikings were victorious in individual events today, Cleveland State dropped just their third dual meet of the season when they fell at Horizon League foe Wright State, 149-94.
"We went into the meet very focused on giving 100% in every race and Wright State is a very hard team to swim against especially at their home pool," head coach Wally Morton said. "This meet was a good way for us to see where we are at in comparison with other league teams and what we need to work on to be competitive when it comes to the league championships."
CSU was led once again by Sophomore Mark deSwardt, who was victorious in the 1,000 free (9:37.16), while Pierre De Waal and Deni Gasparin were both victorious in 200 yard events.
De Waal won the 200 fly in 1:54.10, and Gasparin touched first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.00.
"We have a lot to work on before the championships come around, but with the way that the whole team is training we will have a good shot at achieving the goal of winning the title," Morton said. "We just finished four hard weeks of training and I'm looking forward to seeing what the team will bring next week against Oakland."
Josh Gonzalez was back in action for the Viking divers, taking home first place honors in the 3-meter event with a score of 317.32. With the score he bested his career best that he set in the quad meet against Niagara, St. Bonaventure and Valparaiso (11/14).
The Vikings return to action on Friday (Jan. 29) when CSU travels to Rochester, Michigan to take on Oakland at 6:00 p.m.
