COLUMBUS, Ohio - Cleveland State lost 7-0 to No. 45 Ohio State, snapping a six match win streak. The loss puts the Vikings at 7-3 on the season.
Ohio State took all three doubles matches to capture the doubles point and all six singles matches were completed in straight sets. Freshman Melissa Holzinger put up the biggest fight, taking her second set to a tie break, falling to Angela DiPastina, 6-1, 7-6 (3) at No. 1 singles. The loss ended a six consecutive singles match win streak for Holzinger.
Freshman Sanda Bjelan fell 6-0, 6-0 to Julie Blackmore at No. 3 singles, snapping a seven match win streak. Sophomore Charlotte Gibbons fell to Cami Hubbs at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
"We competed well against them," assistant coach Mark Barry said. "They played better on the big points than us, but hopefully we can take what we learned from this match into the conference season."
The Vikings host Oakland and Chicago State on Saturday, March 1. The Oakland match is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start and the Chicago State match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
