EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Cleveland State wrapped up the 2008 fall season with two doubles matches on the second day of the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Tournament.
The new duo of Catrine Bjerrehus and Melissa Holzinger won their first match against Michigan State's Ana Milosavljevic and Dana Guentert, 8-4.
"This was a great win for us to make it into the round of 32 (doubles teams)," said CSU head coach Brian Etzkin. "It is always exciting to pick up a Big Ten win whenever we can and to get a chance to compete against the top 32 teams in the country."
Bjerrehus and Holzinger exited the tournament with a loss to Julie Blackmore and Kirsten Flower of Ohio State.
"Ohio State came out too aggressive too early and we weren't quite ready for it," Etzkin said. "Catrine and Melissa played very well though, especially since the two of them have never played together before and were able to make it as far as they did. This is a testament to how good our doubles can be."
The Vikings will not compete again until 2009 when they travel to Bowling Green for a dual match on Jan. 23.
