TOLEDO, Ohio - Just one day after winning 7-0 for its first win of the season, Cleveland State dropped a 7-0 decision at Toledo on Sunday (Jan. 28).The Vikings are now 1-4 on the season.
"Toledo plays good tennis, they played better than us and deserved to win today," head coach Brian Etzkin said.
The Vikings were swept in doubles play by large margins, with the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles each falling 8-2 and the third doubles team 8-1.
Junior Jenn Myers (1-3) saw the most success in singles play, falling 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to Jenny Belsky. Freshman Denisa Muntean (5-6) won four games, losing 6-3, 6-1 to Martina Wodzinski at No. 2 singles.
Senior Sarah Galon (11-6), the only Viking undefeated in dual matches, lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to Myriam Cueva.
"We're struggling hard right now," Etzkin said. "We're going to work hard this week and maybe try some changes in the lineup.
"I believe in the talent on this team. We will start winning matches and right the ship."
The Vikings, who played three matches in three days this weekend, will play three matches in two days next weekend, taking on Niagara on Saturday, Feb. 3 at River Oaks Racquet Club at noon. CSU then hosts St. Bonaventure and Buffalo the next day, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
