BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team closed out regular season play Sunday, picking up a 4-3 victory at Oakland.
With Sunday's win, the Vikings clinched a share of the Horizon League Regular Season Championship, marking the eighth regular season crown in program history.
Cleveland State opened the day by picking up the doubles point, with matching 6-4 victories from
Ella Franz/
Melliz Petkova Mustafa (No. 1) and
Jenna Redmile/
Laura Tapia (No. 3).
The Vikings quickly added to their score to begin singles play, as
Leah Geisz earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot to put CSU up 2-0, before Oakland earned its first point of the day at the No. 4 spot.
Tapia then gave the Vikings a 3-1 advantage with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
With the remaining three singles matches in third sets, the Vikings were able to clinch the match at the top of the lineup, as Franz battled for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
The Vikings will now look ahead to the Horizon League Tournament, which begins with first round matches on Friday, April 24.
