ASHLAND, Ohio - Five Vikings went 3-0 and Cleveland State jumped out to big leads en route to a perfect 3-0 day at the Ashland Duals on Sunday (Jan. 21). CSU defeated Air Force (23-10), Ashland (35-10) and Ohio (24-12) to extend its winning streak to four straight. The Vikings are now 7-2 on the season.

Juniors Ryan Riggs (7-10 at 125) and David Armstrong (12-6 at 13) put CSU up, 7-0, early in the day's first dual against Air Force, and after a loss at 141, the Vikings reeled off three straight decisions to go up 16-3. The Falcons would pull to within 16-10 before sophomore Chris Hahn (8-4 at 197) scored a 14-4 major decision to extend the Vikings' lead to 20-10. Sophomore heavyweight Rashard Goff (21-9) finished off the Falcons with a 6-1 win.

The Vikings got out to an identical 7-0 start, keyed by another major decision by Armstrong, in the day's second dual against host Ashland. After a 10-2 major decision from junior Mike Hurley (15-7 at 141) senior Ryan Hurley won by medical default in a match he had led 17-0 to put CSU up, 17-0.

Things only got better for the Vikings as sophomore Victer Crenshaw (22-5 at 157) won by tech fall and sophomore Marcus Effner (18-12 at 165) captured a 6-3 decision to put CSU ahead, 25-0. Ashland answered to make it 25-10 before Hahn won a 14-4 major decision and Goff won by forfeit to give CSU the 25-point win.

"Today is definitely a good day for our program," head coach Jack Effner. "We are wrestling better everyday, and it's good because we're getting into our EWL schedule."

After decisions by Riggs and Armstrong and a forfeit win by Mike Hurley gave the Vikings a 12-0 lead to start against Ohio, Ryan Hurley and Crenshaw won decisions to put CSU ahead, 18-0. Jacob Ison stopped the bleeding for Ohio with a 6-1 win over Effner and Antonio Love pinned sophomore Nate Kmetz (4-15 at 174) to pull the Bobcats within 18-9.

Senior David Gilkey (14-13 at 184) posted a key 7-4 win to put the Vikings up, 21-9, and the Vikings split the last two matches to finish with a 24-12 win over Ohio and a 3-0 record for the day.

Riggs and Armstrong each went 3-0 on the day, with Armstrong winning twice by major decision. Ryan Hurley, Crenshaw and Hahn each went 3-0 as well, while Effner and Goff won two of three bouts.
