March 1, 2004

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State forwards Ashley Schrock (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) and Shannon Sword (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) were named to the All-Horizon League Women's Basketball first team as part of the postseason awards announced by the conference office on Monday. The voting was conducted among the league's head coaches, Sports Information Directors and a media representative from each school.

A second team pick last season, Schrock is one of only two players in the league to rank in the top 15 in scoring (5th - 14.3), rebounding (2nd - 7.6) and assists (2nd - 5.04). In addition, she is second in the conference with nine double-doubles, fourth in free throw pct. (779) and 13th in field goal pct. (.416). She was a two-time player of the week selection.

Ashley Schrock lived up to her first team all-league billing in the preseason.

Sword finished second in the conference with a 17.5 scoring average and 12 20-point games. She ranked first in free throw pct. (.828) and three-point pct. (.433), was sixth in field goal pct. (.471) and eighth in rebounding (6.2). She set the school record with 30 consecutive free throws made earlier this year and earned league player of the week honors on Jan. 26.

The seniors join Audra Cook and Mahogany Green, who both earned first team accolades in 2000, as the only tandems in school history to receive the honor in the same season and are the 10th and 11th first team selections all-time.

Joining the pair on the first team were Abby Scharlow, who played at CSU in 2000-01 before transferring to UW-Green Bay, Butler's Nancy Bowden and UW-Milwaukee's Maria Viall, who was also named the 2004 Player of the Year.

UW-Green Bay swept the other two major awards, as Nicole Soulis earned Newcomer of the Years honors and Kevin Borseth claimed the Coach of the Year award.

CSU (12-15, 9-7 HL) opens play as the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championship when the Vikings host No. 5 Butler (13-14, 9-7 HL) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4. Tickets are $5 and are available at the Convocation Center Box Office or by calling Ticket Master at (216) 241-5555. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more by calling (216) 687-4848.
