FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team continued its 2025-26 slate Wednesday evening, dropping an 80-70 contest at Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Game
After trailing 47-30 at the halftime break, the Vikings stormed back during the third quarter, outscoring the Mastodons 22-17 to trim the lead to single digits.

Sarah Hurley three-pointer opened the scoring for the Vikings during the third quarter, before a 10-3 CSU run closed the gap to 10 points on a pair of
Jada Leonard free throws. A 2-for-2 effort from the free throw line from
Izabella Zingaro on the next CSU possession trimmed the lead to single digits, while a Zingaro layup a few plays later closed the gap to seven points at 54-47.
Purdue Fort Wayne answered with a pair of baskets to regain a double-digit lead before another pair of Zingaro free throws put the Vikings down by just nine points at 58-49. The two teams then traded baskets over the final minutes of the frame, heading into the fourth quarter with the Mastodons leading 64-52.

Macey Fegan layup just over a minute into the fourth quarter closed the gap to 10 points, but that would be as close as the Vikings would come during the final frame, as Purdue Fort Wayne responded with back-to-back baskets to extend their lead back to 15 points at 69-54 with 7:36 left on the clock.
After the Mastodons gained a 16-point lead with 3:28 left to play, the Vikings posted a 7-1 run to close out the contest – including an
Ella Van Weelden three-pointer – putting the final score at 80-70 Purdue Fort Wayne.
