Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Closes Homestand With 68-61 Victory Over RMU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out its current homestand Sunday, picking up a 68-61 victory over Robert Morris. With the win, the Vikings are now 15-5 overall this season and 5-4 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Four Vikings finished with double-digit points, including Colbi Maples with 15. Laurel Rockwood and Jada Leonard both added 14 and Izabella Zingaro chipped in 13.
-Izabella Zingaro, Macey Fegan and Laurel Rockwood all grabbed six rebounds, while Sarah Hurley recorded five boards.
-The Vikings finished with 14 assists, including four from Macey Fegan and Jada Leonard.
-Cleveland State forced RMU into 19 turnovers, turning these miscues into 16 points.

Game Notes
-Laurel Rockwood tied her season-high with 14 points on the day.
-The Vikings outrebounded RMU 36-30, marking the third straight game the Vikings have held the rebounding advantage.
-Cleveland State is now 11-1 when playing at home this season.

The Game
After trailing by two points at the halftime break at 38-36, the Vikings were able to win the third quarter, outscoring RMU 15-8 during the frame.

Cleveland State slowly chipped away at the RMU lead over the opening minutes of the third quarter, with a trio of baskets from Macey Fegan and Izabella Zingaro knotting the score at 42-42 just over three minutes into the frame. A Colbi Maples three-pointer on Cleveland State's ensuing possession put the Vikings back on top then at 45-42 with 6:00 left on the clock.

The Vikings then extended their lead late in the quarter, as an Ayisse Magassa layup in the final minute put Cleveland State up 51-44, before the Vikings took a 51-46 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.

Following an RMU basket to open the fourth quarter, Maples responded with another three-pointer to put the Vikings up 54-48 just 1:00 minute into the frame. The Colonials were then able to close the gap to just one point over the next few minutes, before a pair of Zingaro free throws put the Vikings back up by three at 56-53 with 6:56 left to play.

A Jada Leonard three-pointer a few possessions later gave the Vikings a six-point lead at 59-53, kickstarting an 8-2 run from the Vikings that put Cleveland State up 64-55 on yet another Leonard three-pointer.

Cleveland State then extended its lead to double-digits at the 2:47 mark, as a Zingaro layup put the score at 66-55. Although RMU was able to trim the lead back to single digits over the final minutes of the quarter the Vikings remained in control, coming away with the 68-61 victory.
