CLEVELAND -
Senior forward Shannon Sword (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) has been named Horizon League Player of the Week for Jan. 19-25 after leading the first-place Vikings to pair of conference victories. She becomes the second Cleveland State player to be recognized by the league this year, joining senior teammate Ashley Schrock (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon), who was honored on Dec. 22 and Jan. 12.
Sword continued her stellar play with a pair of 21-point games last week. On Thursday against Loyola, she knocked down six of 10 shots and grabbed seven rebounds in 37 minutes of action. Playing all 40 minutes two days later against UIC, she scored 15 second-half points to help the Vikings rally from an eight-point deficit. She also pulled down nine rebounds and knocked down three three-pointers. She now leads the league with an 18.9 ppg scoring average and 10 20-point games. Her 42-point week also brought Sword within 28 points of becoming the 18th CSU player to score 1,000 career points.
Cleveland State (9-8, 6-1 HL) plays just one game this week, hosting IPFW (6-12) tonight at 7:00 p.m. The contest with the Mastodons concludes a four-game homestand for the Vikings. Tickets for all of CSU's games are available by calling (216) 687-4848.
