Anthony Coleman claimed his first title at 141, as the Cleveland State wrestling team finished fourth out of nine teams at the Oklahoma Classic in Brockport, N.Y., on Saturday. Coleman, one of two returning NCAA qualifiers for the Vikings from a year ago, defeated Bloomsburg's Scott Heckman, 6-2, in the final to claim the victory for the Vikings.
In other action on the day for the Vikings, Russ Davie won the consolation bracket, with Davie scoring a pin over Oklahoma's Jake Hager at the 1:04 mark in the first period at heavyweight. Jason Effner finished fourth on the day, falling to Rutgers' Amir Khan in the consolation final. Joe Phillips also took third at 197, defeating Bloomsburg's Chad Hoare in the consolation final, 4-3.
Matt DePolo finished second in the 149 class, falling to Ohio State's Jeff Ratliff in the final of that class, 9-2. At 133, Matt Shultz finished sixth after losing to Buffalo's Brian Sebaaly, 6-3, in the fifth-place match. DeAngelo Penn, meanwhile, scored a victory over teammate Joe Wornoff in the fifth-place match at 125, to give the Vikings a win in that bracket.
The Vikings will return to the mats on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they host John Carroll in a dual match at Woodling Gym. Match time is 7 p.m.
