Vikings Put Out Flames, 83-69

CHICAGO (AP) - Theo Dixon scored 24 points and Cleveland State held Illinois-Chicago's leading scorer Cedrick Banks scoreless Saturday in beating the Flames 83-69.

Cleveland State (7-6, 1-1 in the Horizon League) tied a school record for blocked shots with 10 as 6-11 sophomore Pape Badiane recorded a career-high five rejections, tying the third highest single game total in Viking history. In addition, junior Tahric Gosley, who set the Vikings' single season blocked shot record last season, added four swats.

In the scoring department, CSU also got 14 points each from Jamaal Harris and Badiane. The Vikings shot 73 percent (16-for-22) in the second half and used a 12-3 run to pull away after leading 34-32 at the half.

The Vikings limited UIC (9-6, 1-1) to a season-low 30 percent shooting for the game.

Jordan Kardos led UIC with 25 points.

Banks was averaging 12 points a game but missed all six of his shot attempts. UIC's Jon-Pierre Mitchom (0-for-6) and Aaron Carr (0-for-5) also missed all of their field goal attempts.

"They made us look really bad in our own gym," UIC coach Jimmy Collins said.

Although UIC took a 41-36 edge on the boards, CSU had solid rebounding performances from Badiane (7)and Dixon (7), who took game honors along with UIC's Kardos, along with Andre' Williams (6).
