CLEVELAND, Ohio – A total of 201 student-athletes representing all 16 teams at Cleveland State University were recognized for their academic accomplishments at the 34
th annual John Konstantinos Athletics Academic Honors Luncheon.
The 201 student-athletes representing 73-percent of the Cleveland State student-athlete population, were recognized for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better through the end of the 2025 Fall Semester.
The cumulative grade point average of all Cleveland State student-athletes is currently 3.54.
In addition to recognizing the 201 honorees, the Cleveland State Athletic Department also presented six Academic Excellence Awards.
The Best of the Best Team Award, which is given to the sport having the highest team grade point average in the department, went to women's tennis who currently holds a 3.78 team GPA.
Laken Voss of the volleyball team received the President's Award as the graduating senior student-athlete with the highest grade point average, owning a 3.96 GPA in mechanical engineering.
Ryan Poling of the men's soccer team received the Konstantinos Family Scholarship, which is presented to the student-athlete who best reflects and embodies the virtues of former CSU Director of Athletics John Konstantinos. On the field, Poling was named the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and helped the Vikings capture the 2025 Horizon League Regular Season and Tournament Championships. In the classroom, Poling graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in mechanical engineering last spring, and is currently pursuing his MBA.
Josip Rimac also of men's soccer received the Faculty Athletics Representative Award, which is presented to the student-athlete who has exhibited the most profound improvement academically during their time at Cleveland State. Rimac is on track to graduate with honors this spring with a degree in business economics.
This year's James LaMastra Award went to men's basketball's Tre Beard, with the award going to the student-athlete who demonstrates unyielding courage and class in the face of adversity.
The final award was the inaugural
Winnie Lane Scholar-Athlete Leadership Award, which was created to honor the memory of former academic advisor
Winnie Lane. The first-ever
Winnie Lane award, which recognizes individuals who lead with character and uplift teammates while embodying respect, accountability and service in the classroom, went to volleyball's Laken Voss.
