CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (3-5, 1-1) wrapped up its three-game homestand with an 11-6 loss to Robert Morris (7-3, 2-0) on Saturday afternoon. The setback snaps the three-game winning streak for the Green and White.
Creed McDonald opened the scoring with an unassisted goal before the Colonials ran off two straight to lead 2-1 with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter. The Vikings converted on the man-up opportunity with an
Xander Johnson goal off a feed from
Adam Van Voorhis, tying the game at two-apiece.
Robert Morris tallied all five goals of the second quarter to lead 7-2 at the intermission.
Cleveland State rattled off three consecutive goals to begin the third quarter, closing the deficit to 7-5, with 3:07 showing. Van Voorhis started the run with a man-up goal, followed by strikes from
Landon Whalen and
Ethan Erker.
The Colonials got a goal back with 41 seconds left in the third quarter to lead 8-5, heading into the fourth.
RMU bagged consecutive goals to start the fourth quarter, upping the margin to 10-5 at the 10:18 mark. Johnson netted his second goal of the game with 8:36 showing before the Colonials scored one final time with 49 ticks left to win 11-6.
Robbie Stewart went 15-of-20 in the faceoff circle with a game-best seven ground balls.
Seth Alejandrino finished tied for a game-best three caused turnovers.
Johnson led the attack with three points on two goals and an assist.
Oliver Vanyo suffered his first loss of the year in the cage despite making 13 saves.
The Green and White head to VMI on Saturday, March 28 for a noon faceoff.
