Cleveland State Men's Basketball Set Three-Point Record in 91-78 Victory Over Oakland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (10-14, 6-7) connected on a program-record 17 three-pointers to overcome a ten-point halftime deficit to win its fifth straight game, 91-78, over Oakland (14-11, 10-4) on Wednesday evening.

Five Vikings finished with double-digit points, led by a game-best 24 points from Tre Beard. He also dished out a game-best nine assists and had five rebounds.

Jaidon Lipscomb dropped 18 points and dished out six assists. Dayan Nessah finished with his second straight double-double and fifth of the year after scoring 15 points and adding ten rebounds.  Foster Wonders and Josiah Harris each came off the bench to score 12 points.

The Vikings assisted on 22 of their 30 made field goals and held a 39-33 advantage on the boards.

Cleveland State held its largest lead of the half, 10-7, when Oakland rattled off seven straight points to take a 14-10 lead with 12:47 remaining in the half.

The Grizzlies stretched their advantage to 21-14 when Wonders tripled at the start and end of an 8-2 run to get within a point, 23-22, at the 6:35 mark. However, the Green and White went into the half trailing 42-32.

Lipscomb knocked down back-to-back three-pointers a minute into the second half to pull within four. Oakland answered right back with seven straight points to push the margin out to 49-38 with 17:12 showing.

Cleveland State continued battling back, tying the game 65-65 with 8:25 to go and taking its first lead since the first half on a Harris free throw, 68-67, with 6:52 to go in regulation.

The Vikings then exploded with 12 consecutive points to extend the advantage to 80-67 with 3:48 to go in the contest. The Green and White pushed the advantage to the largest of the game, 87-71, on a Nessah dunk with 1:16 remaining in the game.

Cleveland State continued the momentum down the stretch to win its fifth straight game, 91-78.

The Vikings will take to the road on Saturday, Feb. 7, to take on IU Indy at 2 p.m.
