Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Takes Down Green Bay In Overtime, 83-82

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its second overtime win of the season Wednesday, notching an 83-82 victory over league-leading Green Bay. With the win, the Vikings are now 19-8 overall this season.

-Three Vikings finished with 20-point performances, led by Colbi Maples with 26. Izabella Zingaro added 23 points and Macey Fegan chipped in 21.
-Izabella Zingaro grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds, while Macey Fegan added seven.
-The Vikings shot 45-percent from the field on the game, including a .636 clip during the first quarter.
-Cleveland State shot 91-percent from the free throw line, going 21-for-23.
-Cleveland State recorded 13 assists on the night, including four from Macey Fegan.

The Game
Following a strong first half that saw the Vikings hold a 34-30 lead at the halftime break, Cleveland State opened the third quarter with back-to-back baskets from Sarah Hurley and Macey Fegan, extending its lead to 39-30 just 1:35 into the frame.

Although Green Bay was able to stop the scoring run on its next possession, the Vikings answered with a pair of free throws from Izabella Zingaro to regain a nine-point lead for CSU at 41-32, before the Phoenix responded with a 12-0 run to put the momentum back in Green Bay's favor.

Paula Pique then evened the contest at 44-44 late in the third frame with a three-pointer, before a Fegan and-one a few plays later knotted the score once again at 48-48 with just over one minute left on the clock.

The two teams traded baskets over the final minute of the contest, with a last second Jada Leonard layup putting the score at 52-52 at the end of the third quarter.

Zingaro opened the scoring during the fourth quarter, as a pair of free throws put the Vikings back on top at 54-52, before both teams went on to trade baskets throughout the entire frame.

Trailing by two with just 36 seconds left on the clock, a Fegan layup off an assist from Maples knotted the score at 76-76. The Cleveland State defense then held Green Bay off the board during its final possession, forcing the contest into overtime.

Fegan carried her momentum into the overtime period, opening the scoring for the Vikings with a jumper at the 4:15 mark, before Green Bay quickly responded to even the score once again.

The tie wouldn't last long though, as a Zingaro three-pointer on CSU's next trip down the floor put the Vikings up 81-78 with 3:00 left to play. A pair of Zingaro free throws late in the overtime period then held the Viking lead at 83-79 with just over one minute left on the clock.

With just 35 seconds left on the clock, Green Bay converted a three-pointer to pull within one point at 83-82, and although the Vikings didn't convert on their end of the court, their defense held strong, keeping the Phoenix off the board in their final possession and pulling down the defensive board to clinch the overtime victory.
