Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Notches 68-52 Victory Over Detroit Mercy

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team was back in action on Wednesday,  picking up a 68-52 victory over Detroit Mercy. With the win, the Vikings are now 14-5 on the year and 4-4 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Izabella Zingaro led the Viking offense with 20 points, while Macey Fegan added 15.
-Macey Fegan grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, as the Vikings held a 43-24 advantage on the boards.
-Cleveland State combined for 17 assists on 23 made field goals, including four each from Izabella Zingaro, Jada Leonard and Laurel Rockwood.

Game Notes
-Macey Fegan tallied her second straight double-double and third overall with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
-Izabella Zingaro recorded her fourth 20-point performance of the year and finishing right on the number.
-Cleveland State's 17 assists marks the eighth time this season that the Vikings have recorded 15+ helpers.

The Game
After taking a slight 31-29 edge into the halftime break, the Vikings used an 11-3 run over the first part of the third quarter to extend their lead to double-digits, as a pair of Colbi Maples free throws put the score at 42-32.

Although Detroit Mercy was able to stop the scoring run on its ensuing possession, a Macey Fegan three-pointer at the 3:00 mark put the Vikings back up by double-digits at 45-34.

Cleveland State then extended this into a 9-2 run over the final minutes of the frame, as a Fegan layup put the Vikings up 51-37 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The two teams traded baskets to open the fourth quarter then, before five-straight points from Izabella Zingaro put the Vikings up 58-39 following an and-one play.

Cleveland State then controlled play throughout the rest of the contest, coming away with the 68-52 victory.
