CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (2-2-4) upended St. Bonaventure (3-5-2) 3-1 in non-league play on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the Green and White got back to .500 on the year.
The opening half went scoreless, with the Bonnies holding a 7-5 edge in shots.
Uzman Ramees had the best scoring chance for the Vikings in the 43rd minute as his shot from 25-yards out went off the crossbar.
Cleveland State grabbed the first goal in the 59th minute as
Jacob Deever scored his first in the Green and White on an absolute rocket from the top of the box off a pass from Ramees.
The Vikings doubled the margin in the 66th minute as
Peleg Armendariz one-touched it home off a cross from
Josip Rimac. Four minutes later,
Ognjen Bozovic ripped an absolute laser from 35-yards out off a pass from
Fefo Granados.
St. Bonaventure ruined the shutout in the 78th minute as Seth Hammond finished off a pair of passes from inside the box.
The Vikings fired off 12 shots in the game, with six of those on frame. Armendariz led the way with three shots, including two on frame. Bozovic and Petrovic each had two shots.
Ryan Poling made four saves in the game.
Cleveland State hosts Wright State in Horizon League play on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
