Strong Second Half Propels Cleveland State Men's Soccer Past Wright State, 2-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (3-2-4, 2-0-2) used a pair of second-half goals to remain unbeaten in league play, defeating Wright State (1-8-1, 1-3-0) 2-1 on Saturday night.

The Raiders netted the lone goal of the first half in the 31st minute off a 30-yard free kick.

Cleveland State pulled even in the 51st minute after a VAR call led to a penalty in the box, setting up Jacob Deever for a penalty kick. The senior converted the opportunity for his second tally of the year.

The Vikings scored the winning goal in the 80th minute as Peleg Armendariz finished off a cross from Josip Rimac, winning 2-1. Rimac has now picked up an assist in each of the previous three games.

Wright State had a 10-7 edge in shots, but the Vikings held a 5-2 shots on goal advantage.

Tom Mertz had two shots, both of which were on goal, to lead the Green and White. Ryan Poling made one save in the game.

The Vikings wrap up their three-game homestand with their final non-league game on Krenzler Field against Bowling Green on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m.
