CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (1-2-3, 1-0-1) scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to secure its first win of the year against Oakland (0-5-3, 0-2-0) 1-0 on Saturday evening. The game was also Alumni and Youth Night, as the past and future were recognized at halftime.
The opening half went scoreless, with the best chance for either team coming in the 35th minute when
Matteo Correia ripped a shot off the post.
The contest was trending towards the Vikings' fourth tie of the year until
Lennart Heck scored his first collegiate goal and game-winner in the 89th minute off a cross from
Josip Rimac.
Cleveland State held a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. The corner kicks favored the Green and White 6-2.
Cooreia led the game with four shots, while Rimac came off the bench with three shots, including one on frame.
Ryan Poling recorded his second consecutive shutout after making three saves.
The Vikings will continue Horizon League play with a trip to Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 27, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
