CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team returned to Woodling Gymnasium Thursday evening, picking up a 3-0 sweep over Kent State.
Laken Voss paced the offense with 11 kills on the night, eclipsing the 1,000-kill mark for her career. Voss ended the match with 1,004 total kills.
Along with Voss,
Bryn VanVleet also finished with double-digit kills, ending the night with 10.
Vayda Delventhal notched a team-best 14 digs, while Voss added 13 for a double-double on the night.
As a team, the Vikings recorded 12.0 total blocks, including eight from
Julia Jozefov and four from
Chloe List.
During the opening set, the two teams traded points until late in the frame, when a
JeriLynn Koehler solo block and an
Isabella Gibbons service ace gave the Vikings a 23-19 edge. The Vikings then earned set point on a VanVleet kill, before closing out the frame on a Voss kill.
Cleveland State continued its momentum into the second set then, earning the 25-17 victory to gain a 2-0 edge in the match.
During the third set, the two teams once again traded points throughout the frame, until a late 5-0 run from the Vikings closed out the 25-20 set victory. During the final five-point stretch, the Vikings had points off of a pair of Kent State errors, kills from Jozefov and List and a Jozefov/List block.
Cleveland State will close out non-league play tomorrow, traveling to Akron for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
