MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Cleveland State (0-2-3, 0-0-1) opened Horizon League play with a scoreless draw at Milwaukee (1-2-3, 0-0-1) on Saturday evening. Tonight marked the second straight tie for the Green and White.
The Vikings had the perfect opportunity to get on the board in the 28th minute as
Tom Mertz's shot in the box went off a Milwaukee player's hand, setting up a penalty kick. However,
Paolo Roditti's shot to the lower left corner was saved.
The game remained scoreless at the intermission, with the Panthers holding a 6-5 edge in shots, but each team had two shots on frame.
The second half was a defensive battle, with each goalkeeper making two saves, as the league opener ended in a scoreless draw.
Milwaukee held a 16-9 edge in shots, while both teams had four corner kicks.
Peleg Armendariz had a team-best four shots with one on frame.
Ryan Poling made four saves for his first shutout of the year.
Cleveland State will play its first home league game on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. versus Oakland.
