Ivan Spirov Joins Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Team

Cleveland, OH-Ivan Spirov, a 6'8" forward from Bulgaria, is the newest member of the Cleveland State men's basketball team. Head Coach Rob Summers announced the signing of Spirov as the final addition to his inaugural 2025-26 squad. Spirov will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"We're thrilled to welcome Ivan Spirov to Cleveland State," said Coach Summers. "Ivan has elite athleticism and a high motor which are things that we value in our program. He's a high-character competitor who will elevate our locker room the day he walks on campus.  Most importantly, he's about the right things—work, humility, and winning."

Spirov is a native of Varna, Bulgaria and has a wide array of international playing experience. His most recent experience came with Cherno More Ticha Varna, a professional basketball club in the National Basketball League. This past season Spirov helped his team to a 21-13 overall record playing in all but one of the team's 34 games averaging 7.8 points per game. Spirov shot 52 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line.

Spirov has also represented his home country of Bulgaria in international competition. He competed in the FIBA U16, U18 and U20 European Championships. Spirov averaged double figures in scoring in two of his three international competitions with his best performance coming in 2021 at the U18 Championships where he averaged 10 points and 7.8 rebounds per game with a 14.8 Player Efficiency Rating.

Spirov will be playing in the United States for the first time and his time with the Vikings will be his first collegiate playing experience. Spirov is the 15th member of the 2025-26 Cleveland State team and the fourth international student-athlete on the roster. He joins Lucas Burton (Canada), Dayan Nessah (Switzerland) and Waqo Tessema (Canada) as the international contingent in the green and white this season.
