CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (0-1) was edged by Kent State (1-0) 1-0 in the 2025 season & home opener on Thursday evening.

The Golden Flashes got on the board in the 25th minute after Samantha Miller finished off a rebounded save on a Kiyomi McCausland shot. The scoreline remained the same heading into the break.

The Vikings equalized on a free kick in the 48th minute; however, the goal was disallowed after VAR found a Cleveland State player to be offside, maintaining the deficit at 1-0.

Cleveland State kept the pressure on down the stretch but was unable to find the back of the net as the Golden Flashes hung on for the 1-0 win.

Mayra Sesmas, Emilee Tonkovich, and Olivia Cruz accounted for the Green and White shots.

Hayleigh Lewis made seven saves in her Cleveland State debut.

The Vikings will head to Southern Indiana for their first-ever meeting on Sunday at 2 p.m.
