CLEVELAND, Ohio – A total of 274 student-athletes representing all 19 teams at Cleveland State University were recognized for their academic accomplishments at the 33
rd annual John Konstantinos Athletics Academic Honors Luncheon.
The 274 student-athletes, representing 68-percent of the Cleveland State student-athlete population, were recognized for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better through the end of the 2024 Fall Semester.
The cumulative grade point average of all Cleveland State student-athletes is currently 3.47.
In addition to recognizing the 274 honorees, the Cleveland State Athletic Department also presented six Academic Excellence Awards.
The 'Best of the Best' Team Award, which is given to the sport having the highest team grade point average in the department, went to cross country who currently holds a 3.70 team GPA.
Maia Taylor-Casamayor of the women's fencing team received the President's Award as the graduating senior student-athlete with the highest grade point average. Taylor-Casamayor, who has a 4.00 GPA in political science, is part of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Honors College.
Men's basketball senior Chase Robinson received the John McLendon Award, which is given to the student-athlete who best represents the ideals and personal philosophy of McLendon, a former CSU men's basketball coach. As a three-year member of the men's basketball team, Robinson serves as a leader on and off the court, and is heavily involved in the team's civic engagement initiatives, mentoring programs and SAAC.
Filippa Frogner of the women's tennis team received the Konstantinos Family Scholarship, which is presented to the student-athlete who best reflects and embodies the virtues of former CSU Director of Athletics John Konstantinos. On the court, Frogner is the heartbeat of the team, bringing infectious energy, focus and a competitive spirit, while maintaining a 3.98 GPA studying international relations in addition to serving as a SAAC officer.
Justin Jaeckin of the wrestling team received the Faculty Athletics Representative Award, which is presented to the student-athlete who has exhibited the most profound improvement academically during their time at Cleveland State. Jaeckin is on track to graduate with honors this spring with a 3.31 GPA in the field of business economics.
The final Academic Excellence Award went to Ellie McKibbin of women's swim & dive, as she received the James LaMastra Award, which is given to the student-athlete who demonstrates unyielding courage and class in the face of adversity.
