Cleveland State Lacrosse Drops Game to LIU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (4-8, 2-3) dropped a 15-7 home contest to LIU (8-3, 3-2) on Saturday afternoon.

LIU scored the first four goals of the game and held the Green and White scoreless until Amiri Austin scored with 52 seconds left in the opening quarter to trail 4-1.

The Sharks struck first in the second quarter before Joe Ginnetti found the back of the net off an Ethan Brooks assist to trail 5-2 with five minutes left in the first half. LIU then tacked on two more goals to lead 7-2 at halftime.

LIU rattled off five consecutive goals to open the third quarter, growing their advantage to 12-2 with 3:36 showing. A man-up goal by Wyatt Robertson from Alex Van Voorhis made it 12-3 heading to the fourth.

Alex Van Voorhis opened the fourth quarter, scoring less than a minute in, and Griffin Valli followed three minutes later from Ginnetti to get within 12-5 at the 11:45 mark.

The Sharks answered right back with three unanswered goals to make it 15-5 with 3:58 remaining in the game.

Ethan Erker netted his first collegiate, and Griffin Burkey followed with his third of the year as the Green and White fell at home, 15-7.

Robbie Stewart went 13-of-23 in the circle with five ground balls. Ginnetti finished with two caused turnovers. Justin Dalum made 17 saves in the game.

Cleveland State plays its final conference road game against Robert Morris on Saturday, April 19, at 3 p.m.
