Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Advances To WNIT Super 16

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team opened postseason play in the WNIT Tuesday, picking up a 72-70 overtime victory against Coppin State in a second round contest. With the win, the Vikings advance to the Super 16, and will host Duquesne on Friday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue paced the Viking offense with 25 points, while Jordana Reisma added 21 and Sara Guerreiro added 14 points.
-Destiny Leo and Sara Guerreiro both had a team-best eight rebounds, while Jordana Reisma grabbed seven boards.
-Cleveland State finished with 17 assists on the day, including five from Sara Guerreiro and Filippa Goula.
-Cleveland State shot 49-percent from the floor on the game, including a .714 clip during the overtime period (5-for-7).

Game Notes
-With 25 points on the game, Mickayla Perdue recorded her 19th 20-point game of the season.
-Jordana Reisma posted her sixth 20-point game of the year after finishing with 21 on the night.
-Cleveland State's 17 assists on the night marked the 24th time this season that the Vikings finished with 15 or more helpers.
-Tuesday's win marked the first victory in WNIT play for the Vikings, and the sixth postseason victory overall.
-This marked just the second overtime contest for Cleveland State this season, with the Vikings holding a 2-0 record when playing extra minutes.

The Game
After trailing by nine at 52-43 early on in the fourth quarter, the Vikings used an 8-0 run to close the gap to just one point at 52-51. During this stretch, the Vikings had six points from Jordana Reisma and two from Mickayla Perdue, while the CSU defense forced Coppin State into a pair of turnovers.

Coppin State responded by extending its lead back to five points over the next few possessions, before a Perdue free throw and three-pointer once again brought the Vikings back within one at 58-57 with 1:00 minute left on the clock.

After drawing a foul with just six seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Reisma converted a free throw to tie the game at 58-58, forcing overtime in Tuesday's second round contest.

The two teams traded baskets to begin the overtime period then, before back-to-back shots from Sara Guerreiro and Reisma gave the Vikings a four-point lead at 69-65 late in the frame. Although Coppin State was able to stop the CSU scoring run, a pair of Perdue free throws with just 19 seconds left on the clock put the Vikings back up by four at 71-67, before a Destiny Leo free throw iced the game for the Vikings and put the final score at 72-70.
