CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team continued postseason play Friday night, picking up a 55-52 victory over Duquesne in the WNIT Super 16. With the win, the Vikings advance to the Great 8 to face Purdue Fort Wayne on Monday, March 31.

The Game
Despite trailing 29-18 at the halftime break, the Vikings used back-to-back three-pointers from
Destiny Leo and
Sara Guerreiro over the opening minutes of the third quarter to pull within seven points at 31-24. The Vikings then extended their scoring run with a
Filippa Goula layup at the 6:34 mark, putting the score at 31-26 Duquesne midway through the frame.
Cleveland State was then able to pull within three points following a pair of
Mickayla Perdue free throws, before Duquesne responded with a mini 4-0 run to regain a seven-point lead at 35-28. The two teams then traded baskets over the final minutes of the third quarter, with Duquesne taking a 42-37 edge into the final 10 minutes of action.
Cleveland State then opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back baskets from Guerreiro and Leo, to come within one point at 42-41 just over two minutes into the frame. Although Duquesne was able to stop the CSU scoring run, the Vikings responded with a trio of free throws, knotting the contest at 44-44 with 6:05 left on the clock.
On the ensuing possession, a 2-for-2 effort from
Jordana Reisma at the free throw line gave Cleveland State its first lead of the second half, putting the Vikings on top 46-44 midway through the frame.
The two teams then traded baskets over the next few possessions, until a stretch of three Guerreiro points put the Vikings back on top at 50-47 late in the frame. Although Duquesne was able to knot the score twice more over the final minutes, a
Filippa Goula three-pointer with 32 seconds remaining gave the Vikings a 55-52 lead that they would go on to hold for the remainder of the contest.
Cleveland State's defense held strong on the final Duquesne possession of the game, forcing the Dukes into a trio of missed shots, to hold on to the 55-52 victory.
