Cleveland State Lacrosse Tripped Up by Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Cleveland State (1-3) dropped a road game to Marquette (2-2) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 15-7.

Marquette tallied the first two goals before Wyatt Robertson netted his first of the year with 5:46 remaining in the opening quarter. A minute later, Xander Johnson converted on the man-up off a feed from Michael Care, tying it up at 2-2.

Robertson notched his second with 24 seconds to go off a pass from Amiri Austin as the Green and White led 3-2 heading into the second quarter.

The Golden Eagles accounted for the opening two goals of the new quarter, reclaiming a 4-3 lead with 12:45 remaining in the half. Brennen Hickey equalized with his fifth of the year, but Marquette closed the half with a pair of goals to lead 6-4.

Following a Marquette goal to start the new half, Robertson completed the hat-trick to trail 7-5 with 9:42 left in the quarter. After MU scored the next goal, Joe Ginnetti netted his first collegiate goal to get within 8-6 with 6:40 showing. However, the home team netted two straight to lead 10-6 with one frame remaining in regulation.

Jacob Lubrant scored on the man-up off an Alex Van Voorhis assist to pull within 10-7 at the 12:38 mark. The final five goals belonged to the Golden Eagles as the Vikings fell 15-7.

Robbie Stewart went 12-of-25 in the faceoff circle and had three ground balls. Robbie Brazanskas picked up a team-best four ground balls. Each team forced five turnovers, with the five different Vikings causing one. Justin Dalum made 13 saves in the cage.

The Vikings head back home for Senior Day on Saturday, March 1 against Canisius at 1 p.m.
