Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up 84-52 Victory Over Niagara

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team returned to the court Saturday, picking up an 84-52 victory over Niagara. With the win, the Vikings are now 9-2 on the year.

Game Stats
-Five Vikings finished with double-figure points, led by Colbi Maples with 19. Izabella Zingaro recorded 16, Ella Van Weelden added 13, Jada Leonard tallied 11, and Ayisse Magassa chipped in 10.
-Cleveland State shot 55-percent from the field, including a .786 clip during the third quarter.
-The Vikings recorded 18 assists on 27 made field goals, including four from Colbi Maples.
-The Cleveland State defense combined for 15 steals, including five from Madison Royal-Davis and three each from Jada Leonard and Colbi Maples.

Game Notes
-Cleveland State's 18 assists marked the fourth time this season with 15+ helpers.
-The Vikings recorded double-digit steals for the seventh time this season after finishing with 15 on the game.
-Saturday's win kept the Vikings perfect when playing at home this season.

The Game
After a back-and-forth start to the contest, the Vikings used a 6-0 run over the final minutes of the opening frame to gain an 18-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

The two teams once again traded baskets throughout the opening part of the second quarter, before eight straight points from the Vikings put the score at 38-20 heading into the halftime break.

An Izabella Zingaro layup opened the scoring for the Vikings in the third quarter then, giving Cleveland State its first 20-point lead of the game at 40-20 less than one minute into the frame. The Vikings then slowly extended their lead to 30-points through the midway point of the quarter, as an Ella Van Weelden three-pointer put the score at 48-27 with 4:42 left in the frame.

The Vikings controlled play throughout the rest of the frame, with an Ayisse Magassa layup giving CSU a 70-35 edge heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Through the third quarter, the Vikings held a 32-15 advantage on the scoreboard.

Cleveland State then went on to hold a 25+ point lead throughout the final frame, coming away with the convincing 84-52 victory.
