CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (7-3-6, 5-1-3) dropped its 2025 regular season finale at home to Green Bay (8-7-1, 5-3-1) 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The regular season will still go down as an outstanding year, with the Green and White winning its second regular season championship and tying the program record for the longest unbeaten streak, 12 games.
The opening half was a scoreless defensive battle, with the visitors holding a 2-1 edge in shots.
Green Bay jump-started an exhilarating 20-minute span with the game's first goal in the 59th minute. The Vikings then equalized in the 78th minute as
Tom Mertz finished off a pair of passes from
Djordje Petrovic and
Adrian Bravo-Sanchez.
The Phoenix needed just two minutes to regain the lead off a through ball. However, one minute later, the Green and White retied the game as
Matteo Correia finished off a through ball from Petrovic.
Green Bay again responded quickly with the game-winner just a minute later on Luke Nicholson's finish on the back post off a cross.
The Vikings finished with eight shots, with
Uzman Ramees having a game-best three. Mertz and Correia were next with two apiece.
Ryan Poling finished with five saves.
Cleveland State will host their semifinal game of the 2025 tournament on Krenzler Field on Wednesday, November 12. With a victory in the semifinal, the Vikings would host the championship game on Saturday, November 15.
