FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up back-to-back wins Saturday, earning a 3-0 sweep over Purdue Fort Wayne.
Laken Voss once again led the Viking offense with 18 kills, while
Bryn VanVleet recorded 12.
Allison Salazar finished the match with 32 assists, along with six digs and five kills.
Defensively, Voss and
Vayda Delventhal both tallied 13 digs, while
Reilly Wadden added 11.
The Vikings combined for six service aces on the day, including two from Delventhal.
The two teams opened the match by playing a back-and-forth first set, with the score knotted at 23-23 late the frame, before Cleveland State tallied back-to-back points on kills from
Julia Jozefov and
Laken Voss to claim the 25-23 first set victory.
During the second frame, the Vikings were able to overcome a 14-10 deficit midway through the set, going on a nine-point run to gain a 19-14 advantage following a trio of kills from Voss and Salazar. The Vikings then controlled the rest of the frame, posting the final three points to earn a 25-21 set victory on a
Bryn VanVleet kill.
The Vikings carried their momentum into the third set then, as a 6-0 run midway through the frame gave Cleveland State a 19-11 edge on another Voss kill. The Vikings then held the lead for the remainder of the set, earning the 25-14 victory on an
Abbi Martin solo block.
Next up for Cleveland State will be a two-game series against Robert Morris on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25, which will begin a five-match homestand for the Vikings.
