Cleveland State Volleyball Picks Up 3-0 Victory Over RMU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team returned to Woodling Gymnasium to begin a five-match homestand Friday, picking up a 3-0 victory over Robert Morris.

Bryn VanVleet paced the Viking offense with 11 kills, while Laken Voss added 10 and Chloe List chipped in eight.

Allison Salazar recorded 36 assists on the night.

Defensively, Vayda Delventhal recorded a team-best 15 digs, while VanVleet tallied 10 for a double-double on the night.

The Vikings got out to a fast start, earning an 11-3 lead during the opening set on a Matilda Dahlstrom kill. Cleveland State would then hold the lead for the remainder of the frame, including extending its lead to 19-11 on a Vayda Delventhal service ace. The Vikings then closed out the set with back-to-back points on a pair of Bryn VanVleet kills, coming away with the 25-22 victory.

During the second set, the Vikings battled back from an early deficit, knotting the score at 15-15 before gaining an 18-15 lead with three straight points. The Vikings would then go on to control the rest of the set, with a Chloe List kill earning the 25-20 second set victory.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the third set then, gaining a 13-7 lead midway through on a Magaly Lemus solo block. Although RMU was able to climb back into the frame, the Vikings were able to hold off a couple Colonial set points, before gaining set point of their own at 26-25 on an Allison Salazar service ace. Salazar then recorded another service ace to close out the frame, giving the Vikings the 27-25 victory.

Cleveland State and RMU will close out the weekend tomorrow, with first serve set for 2:00 p.m.
