DETROIT, Mich. – Cleveland State (5-2-5, 3-0-3) shutout Detroit Mercy (5-7-2, 2-3-1) 2-0 on Saturday evening. The shutout is the fourth of the season for the Vikings.
The Vikings extended their unbeaten streak to nine games, which is the longest under coach Ubiparipovic and the second longest in program history.
Cleveland State struck for the opening goal in the 15th minute when
Ognjen Bozovic finished off a pass from
Matteo Correia to lead 1-0. The scoreline remained the same at the intermission, with the Green and White holding a 6-5 edge in shots.
Peleg Armendariz doubled the margin in the 59th minute with his team-best fourth goal on an absolute rocket from the top of the box off a feed from
Uzman Ramees.
The Vikings held a 16-10 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Armendariz led the game with seven shots, in which two were on target. Ramees came off the bench with three shots, including two on target.
Ryan Poling picked up his fourth shutout of the year after making three saves.
Cleveland State concludes non-league play at Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
